The programme is designed to provide a wide range of information in architecture to our students. For that purpose, during the 5 years of undergraduate study, a series of modules will be taken, which allows you to broaden your knowledge in design together with (urban studies, interior, and landscape design, history and theory, technology, structure, construction, and environmental design). This requires passion, discipline, hardworking, personal development as well as improving your technical skills.
The Bologna process system of study will be followed in the department.
- Total overall number of Credits/Semester = 30 ECTS
- Each academic year consists of ( 30 ) studying weeks (2 Semesters)
TEACHING & LEARNING
The main focus of the programme is on building design. During each year the students will work on different types of projects. Further, First-year students will take some basic modules focusing on strengthening the graphics techniques and principles of art and architecture to provide a comprehensive and strong foundation for the next years. In Year two, students will be familiarized with the integration of building construction and building materials. Year three modules include history and theory of architecture with more advanced techniques of building technology and construction methods in addition to designing some medium scale projects. Besides, there will be compulsory summer training for ONE MONTH during July or August for the third year students with a Satisfactory grade. In year four, students will be asked to study more complex building projects. Moreover, they will work with the integration of Interior and Landscape design into their designs. The final year students will have to design a large scale graduation project by implementing what they have experienced and learned during the last four years. Furthermore, they will take modules on documentation and urban infill with advanced theories of design.
BSc students have to take compulsory theoretical and practical modules. Written exams, reports, and presentations are among the assessments of the theory base modules. In the studio modules, your projects are evaluated by the teaching staff on a daily basis the staff are weighing your work progress based on the requirements and through a comparison process with all your classmate projects. for each practical module, a series of evaluations will be taken before reaching the final presentation of the Project which will be presented to a jury in order to be assessed.
WHY THIS SUBJECT?
Today, the Kurdistan region of Iraq is developing. Its population is in growth and the need for architecture is increasing. Here in our department, you will learn to combine architecture with structural studies, in theory, and design. Our students will be taught building type design and will be familiarized with building construction, technology, urban design and planning, interior design, landscape design alongside theory and history of architecture in preparation for engaging with the need of the market.
