WATER RESOURCES ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
“The engineer is a mediator between the philosopher and the working mechanic and, like an interpreter between two foreigners must understand the language of both, hence the absolute necessity of possessing both practical and theoretical knowledge.”Henry Palmer
Water is one of the essential elements of human existence. Since it is not always possible to get water supply from natural sources, the engineering of water is crucial in order to sustain life. Starting with ancient civilizations, the engineering of water have been linked closely to the rise and decline of civilizations, especially to those cultures highly dependent upon water usages. Water structures have served people for at least 5,000 years, as evidenced in the cradles of civilization, in Babylonia, Egypt, India, Persia, and the Far East. In the 21st Century, due to ultra-importance as a global resource, water is described as “the next oil."
The department provides two levels of academic studies:
■ Undergraduate study: Water Resources Engineering Department awards a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in the fields of Water Resources Engineering after four (4) academic years
■ Postgraduate study: It consists of Two (2) years of academic study towards an MSc. degree in Water Resources Engineering.
The studying program of this department consists of theoretical and practical courses along with using laboratories, computer applications, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
Water Resources Engineering Department aims to provide students with analytical and professional abilities to identify, formulate, and solve problems in water resources engineering. It aims to introduce the students to water-related problems at national, regional, and international levels. Furthermore, our department seeks to prepare students and engineers who have the knowledge, skills, and qualities necessary to pursue a professional license, advanced level studies, and practice and leadership in the water resources engineering profession.
