On November 14, 2024, the College of Engineering at the University of Sulaimani commemorated the 240th anniversary of Sulaymaniyah – the cultural capital once known as the property of the Babans. The event was graced by the presence of the Dean, Vice Dean, faculty members, staff, and students, who made the celebration vibrant and memorable.
The occasion highlighted the vital role of students and young people in shaping Sulaymaniyah’s future. Their passion, creativity, and dedication were emphasized as the driving forces behind creating a flourishing environment for culture, education, and opportunities. Together, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to building a thriving Sulaymaniyah.

On Wednesday, October 30, third-year architecture students embarked on an educational field trip to the Sulaimani Heights residential complex as part of their “Architectural Design and Critique I” module.
The visit began with a brief orientation by the project’s engineering team, who introduced the students to key aspects of the development. Students then toured the upper floors of one of the buildings under construction, allowing them to observe the real-time construction process and witness architectural drawings coming to life.
Throughout the visit, students gained insight into the structural functionality of high-rise building cores, the purpose of utility shafts, fire escapes, and the spatial organization of various apartment layouts. This hands-on experience provided valuable practical knowledge to complement their classroom learning.

As part of the “Architectural Design & Methods II” module during the second semester, second-year architecture students in the Department of Architecture undertook a project to design a secondary school. The project challenged students to develop several concepts for a school situated on an 8,000-square-meter plot in Sulaimani. Each design included nine classrooms, various laboratories, a library, a cafeteria, a management department, and several other facilities.
Throughout the project, students demonstrated their ability to address and solve design problems while paying close attention to the artistic and aesthetic aspects of their ideas. The outcome was a range of successful projects that showcased the students’ creativity and problem-solving skills in educational architecture.

For the “Advanced Building Construction II” module during the spring semester, third-year architecture students were given multiple assignments to deepen their understanding of steel structure construction. Some assignments required students to prepare and design informative posters, while others involved creating scaled models that showcased the unique assembly of steel structure components. The general objective of these assignments was two-fold: to acquire detailed knowledge about the specifics of steel construction and to enhance their artistic capabilities in designing visual presentations.

For the “Building Technology” module, third-year architecture students were tasked with an assignment to recreate building structures using models. The assignment required students to create scaled models to illustrate the structural systems used in various building projects. This exercise aimed to familiarize students with different types of building structures and their implementation in architecture. The objective was to foster an understanding of how structural systems affect building design, form, and function.

The final match of the Annual Engineering Football League was held today at the Football pitch of the College of Basic Education, in the presence of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Serwan Khorshid. The match featured the Civil Engineering team against the Architectural Engineering team and concluded with a decisive 5-0 victory for the Department of Civil Engineering.
