On Thursday, April 25, 2024, the Deanship of the College of Engineering conducted a meeting with the heads of the laboratories at our college.
During the meeting, the significant progress of the College of Engineering’s ranking in Iraq and Kurdistan was highlighted. Earlier this year, it was proudly announced that in the latest Shanghai rankings, the College of Engineering at the University of Sulaimani achieved a remarkable position, ranking between 400-500 globally. This achievement was the result of several factors, including research projects conducted by the college staff in collaboration with our laboratories.
Taking this opportunity, the Dean and Vice Dean of the College expressed their gratitude to the officials of the college laboratories. They appreciated the pivotal role played by the laboratories in enhancing the college’s standards and contributing to its improved global ranking.
Additionally, the meeting provided a platform to exchange views and suggestions aimed at enhancing the capacity of the laboratories. Discussions were focused on addressing the needs of the laboratories and resolving any existing shortcomings to further elevate the college’s academic and research capabilities.

The Department of Architecture Engineering of the University of Sulaimani has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing first place in Iraq based on the Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) indicator in the Scopus database.
FWCI is a key metric used to evaluate the citation impact of scientific papers by comparing the number of citations a publication receives to the average in its subject area. According to the latest analysis, A study in the field of architecture has achieved a citation score of 24.6. This number is 2.6 times higher than the citation score of Babylon University, which holds the second-highest citation rate in Iraq after the University of Sulaimani. On average, each research paper from the University of Sulaimani’s Architecture Department has been cited 24.6 times, compared to 9.2 times for Babylon University. This remarkable difference highlights the University of Sulaimani’s success in elevating the impact of architectural research in Iraq to meet international citation standards.
This outstanding performance is a testament to the high-quality research conducted by the department’s faculty and researchers, supported by the Deanship of the College of Engineering and a strong commitment to international collaboration.
