On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, the College of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering at Sulaimani University participated in the (Egg Protection Device) competition. The event was organized and overseen by the College of Engineering, Civil Engineering Department of Tishk International University (TIU), in collaboration with the ACI-Kurdistan Chapter in Erbil.
We are pleased to announce that members of the ACI-Student Chapter of Sulaimani University, Aran Fazil Omar and Hamza Mahdi Hama Arif, achieved second place among the Kurdistan Region Universities out of 19 participating groups.
We extend our congratulations to the organizers and all participants of the competition for their hard work and dedication.

It is worth mentioning that the University of Sulaimani was the only selected university in Kurdistan and Iraq.

On Sunday, 14/1/2024, a collaborative symposium on New Road Technologies was held under the esteemed supervision of Engineer Dana Abdulkareem HamaSalih, the Minister of Construction and Housing, and Prof. Dr. Kosar Mohammed Ali, the President of the University of Sulaimani.
The ceremony took place in the seminar hall of the College of Engineering at the University of Sulaimani. Distinguished attendees included the Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing for Roads, the Deputy Minister of Housing, the Governor of Slemani, the Deputy Governor, the Dean and Assistant Dean of the College of Engineering, a multitude of engineers and students, and esteemed representatives from private universities and road companies.
Throughout the symposium, several seminars were delivered by distinguished professors from the College of Engineering and engineers from the General Directorate of Roads and Bridges of Sulaymaniyah. These sessions delved into modern and innovative technologies within the realm of roads, exploring the pivotal role of roads in various aspects of life, transportation, and economic development, encompassing road construction and maintenance.
In concluding the event, the University of Sulaimani expressed sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Construction and Housing and the General Directorate of Roads and Bridges of Sulaymaniyah. Reciprocal appreciation was extended by the Ministry of Construction and Housing to the University of Sulaimani, acknowledging the efforts of professors and engineers who enriched the symposium with their expertise. Likewise, the General Directorate of Roads and Bridges of Sulaymaniyah expressed gratitude to the College of Engineering for their collaboration in making the symposium a success.
This symposium stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit fostering advancements in road technologies for the betterment of society and regional development.

On Sunday, December 17, 2023, we were pleased to have a prominent expert in the field of civil engineering (Dr. Yasameen Al-Ameen) with us in the College of Engineering of the University of Sulaimani.
At the beginning, on behalf of the Dean of the College of Engineering and the members of the College Council, the Vice Dean of the College of Engineering (Dr. Chro Haider Ahmad) delivered a speech, in which she warmly welcomed the representative of Nottingham Trent University. She also expressed the pleasure of the College of Engineering and Sulaimani University for this joint activity and hoped to promote the relations between the two universities in the fields of engineering science and research.
Dr. Yasameen Al-Ameen then presented a brief introduction to Nottingham Trent University and the Civil Engineering courses provided at the University. Yasameen gave some examples of project-based learning and research activities conducted in the department, and then discussed possible collaboration opportunities between the University of Sulaymaniyah and Nottingham Trent University.
Dr Yasameen Al-Ameen has a background in research and has been teaching Civil Engineering at NTU for 10 years. Yasameen studied for both her undergraduate and postgraduate Civil Engineering degrees at NTU where she was awarded her PhD for “Utilising novel materials in underground thermal energy storage systems”. Since then, she has presented her research at several conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals. Yasameen is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and teaches structural analysis as well as engineering mathematics and energy modules. Yasameen has received multiple educational and industrial-sponsored awards throughout her time at NTU and was most recently awarded the NTU Vice Chancellors’ teaching excellence award in 2023.

On October 8, a distinguished German delegation from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, under the leadership of Dr. Joachim Lembach, Director of the University’s International Academic Office, paid a visit to the College of Engineering at Sulaimani University.
This visit marks the continuation of a robust partnership that has been in place since 2010, wherein Sulaimani University and Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences have nurtured a close relationship as sister universities. This enduring collaboration has encompassed a wide array of activities, including facilitating educational trips to Germany for students from the College of Engineering, providing opportunities for students to participate in exchange programs at Karlsruhe University, and delivering valuable guidance and supervision to higher education students.
One of the most recent collaborative initiatives involved Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences allocating funds for the establishment of an advanced microcontroller laboratory within the Department of Electrical Engineering at Sulaimani University. This noteworthy project, initiated in 2018 under the guidance of Professor (Dr. Niogaba) from Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, in partnership with several lecturers from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Sulaimani University, underscores the commitment to enhancing academic resources and opportunities.
During the delegation’s visit, after bring welcomed by the president of the University of Sulaimani, they had the opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art laboratories within the Department of Electrical Engineering. This first-hand experience allowed them to gain insight into the support and facilities that can be extended to both teachers and students at the College of Engineering. As part of this visit, on October 8, the College of Engineering organized a workshop for the delegation, with the goal of fostering collaborative degree programs and advancing higher education.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the dedicated professors and teachers within the Department of Electrical Engineering for their unwavering commitment to sustaining this valuable partnership. Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Salih Mohammed has maintained his status as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists for three consecutive years, as conferred by Stanford University—one of the top 10 universities worldwide. This recognition is a testament to his exceptional scientific and research achievements, including citations, as further affirmed by Elsevier’s announcement on October 4, 2023.
Stanford University has developed a publicly accessible database of highly-cited scientists, offering standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in various authorship positions, and a composite indicator known as the c-score. The database provides separate data for career-long impact and single recent year impact, considering metrics with and without self-citations, as well as the citation-to-citing papers ratio.
